Light Cafe Katsuraten
Light Cafe 桂店
Located in Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto, Light Cafe Katsuraten brings together an in-house bakery and a sit-down cafe. From pasta ordered from your seat to generous limited lunch sets and morning service from 7:00, the menu offers plenty for bread lovers.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Step past the aromatic display of breads at the front counter, and the bakery opens into a comfortable dining room with table seating. Unlike self-service bakeries where you quickly eat purchases from a tray, Light Cafe Katsuraten lets you settle into a table and take your time choosing from a dedicated cafe menu.
At midday, hearty lunch offerings draw a steady crowd. Bread lovers often gravitate toward the limited-quantity lunch plate, alongside pasta selections such as prawn and spinach fettuccine in tomato cream sauce, served with salad and a drink. The portions of bread that accompany the special lunch are generous enough that the cafe thoughtfully supplies takeaway bags for anything you cannot finish.
Opening at 7:00, the cafe is equally useful for an early breakfast. Before heading out, taking a look at the retail shelves near the entrance is part of the experience, offering everything from take-home loaves to fruit butters and spreads. Please note that transactions are generally handled in cash, so it helps to carry some yen when you visit.
